Funny Names of U. S. Cities

While reading a news article about James Doohan's (Star Trek's "Scotty") ashes being launched into space, I noticed that the rocket lifted off from Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

How the hell does a town get a name like that? So that had me Googling to see what other funny names were out there. So here are a few of my personal favorites in no particular order:

Monkey's Eyebrow, AZ (do monkey's REALLY have eyebrows?)
Yeehaw Junction, FL
Zook, KS
Krypton, KY
Dry Prong, LA (is there a Wet Prong nearby?)
Cummaquid, MA (I don't want to know....)
Gay, MI
Hell, MI (how close are those two towns?)
Blue Ball, PA
Intercourse, PA (the previous town was named after this one disappeared... not really, but I like to think so)
China Grove, TX
China Grove, TX (apparently there are two of them....)
Chocolate Bayou, TX (I want to live there if there is one!)

And the winner is:
(drumroll please........)
Beaverlick, KY

I've actually got a theory for the Krypton, KY thing. Metropolis, IL is right near the KY boarder. I think Krypton is the first city on the KY side. If you think about it they would go together. I've driven through there once, but it's been awhile so I'm not 100% positive.

I had probate court down at the lake a couple weeks ago and decided to take a route down there that I hadn't taken before. On the way I passed through the small town of Tightwad, Missouri, population 65.

There's GOTTA be a good story behind that one.

I actually live in Krypton, KY and it is in south eastern KY. We are more toward the TN and VA borders than IL. According to an older gentleman that lived here, the town got it's name from a railroad company that stopped here. Krypton was once a mining town and the railroad would make numerous stops. There is another funny things about the area. Our county seat is Hazard, KY. So no matter where I say I am from, I either get the Superman's jokes, or the Dukes of Hazzard's ones. Other unusual names in the area are: Yerkees, Chavies, Scuddy, Hell for Certain, Pippa Passes.
